My only gripe with Akira Toriyama’s art style is how he samefaces a lot but overall his style is really unique and his mechanical designs are incredible. And, to be honest, I like his drawings for everything other than Dragon Ball Z the most (including the original Dragon Ball). Sometimes he’ll draw DBZ characters doing stuff outside the scope of DBZ like Goku riding a robowalker and those are so charming.
Recently bought an Akira Toriyama art book from the 90s and found these cute wolves. It was from a VHS children’s puppet show he did concept art for called Apple Pop.
In case anyone was wondering, the translation for this piece is “Docchi demo ii” which means “Whichever is fine”.
Also, after drawing them again I decided to keep them. @htodinth suggested their nickname should be Docchi, so that’s what I’m going with. I’m glad they were well received for something I did so spontaneously.
When you know more than two languages, your brain will often go down a list of words in every language until you get the right one and it’s really amusing but also frustrating lol
It sucks when you see someone else with a character that looks like yours but remember you can’t really control that. However what you can control is how unique your characters look in relation to the rest of your own cast. I think this is equally as important for people consuming whatever visual media it is you are producing because it’ll give everyone a profile to remember when consuming your work.
